Volume Booster

Increase the loudness of a recording that came out too quiet. Output is always MP3, so a WAV input becomes lossy.

Pushing this far past 3× on already-loud audio can introduce clipping distortion.

This applies a straightforward gain multiplier across the whole track, not per-frequency mastering.

How the volume booster works

The booster applies ffmpeg's volume filter, multiplying every sample by the factor you choose to raise the overall loudness.

Preview it to check the current level.

2

Set the multiplier

Higher values raise volume further — watch for clipping.

3

Boost & download

Get back a louder MP3.

Using the volume booster safely

The volume booster multiplies the level of every sample by a factor you choose. A multiplier of 2 doubles the signal, which is a clear but not extreme increase, so it is a sensible place to start for a recording that is simply too quiet.

Boosting has limits. If the quiet audio already contains background noise, the noise gets louder too, and a very high multiplier can clip the loudest moments and cause distortion. Raise the level in small steps and listen to the result. For a full walkthrough, read our guide on how to make quiet audio louder, and use the Audio Compressor to shrink the finished file.

Frequently asked questions

Will this fix distorted audio?

No — it raises volume; if the source was already clipping, boosting won't undo that.

What multiplier should I start with?

1.5×–2× is a safe starting point for most quiet recordings.

Can this normalize volume automatically?

Not yet — this applies a fixed multiplier rather than analyzing the loudest peak.

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The volume change runs in your browser tab using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so your file stays on your device.

What happens if I boost it too much?

Very high multipliers can clip the loudest parts, which sounds distorted. Start around 1.5× to 2× and listen to the preview before downloading.
