Video to GIF Converter
Convert a short clip into a looping, shareable GIF. Works best on clips under 10 seconds.
Higher frame rate and width both increase GIF file size significantly — start small and adjust.
How the video to gif converter works
ffmpeg samples your clip at the frame rate you choose and scales it to the target width, producing a self-contained looping GIF.

Getting a good video to GIF result
A GIF stores every frame as an image, so even a short clip can become a large file. The two settings that control size are the frame rate and the width: fewer frames per second and a narrower picture both make a smaller GIF. For reactions, tutorials and product demos, a modest frame rate and a width that suits the place you will share it is usually enough.
Keep clips short, ideally under 10 seconds, and trim the part you need first with the Video Trimmer. The result is a looping GIF. If you want to build an animation from still pictures instead of a video, use the GIF Maker, and for a step-by-step walkthrough see our guide on how to make a GIF from a video.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my GIF so large?
GIFs don't compress like video — higher frame rate, width, or clip length all multiply the file size quickly.
Can I use a long video?
You can, but the output will be large; trim it first with the Video Trimmer for the best result.
Does it loop automatically?
Yes, standard GIF looping is enabled by default.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser tab using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so your clip stays on your device.
What frame rate and width should I use?
The defaults are 10 frames per second and 480 pixels wide. Lower either one for a smaller file, or raise them for smoother, larger output.
