Rotation re-encodes the video, so processing time scales with clip length and resolution.

How the video rotator works

The rotator applies ffmpeg's transpose filter to turn the frame by the angle you pick, then re-encodes the result.

What the video rotator is for

Phones and action cameras sometimes record footage with the wrong orientation, so a clip plays sideways or upside down in some players. The video rotator turns every frame by 90, 180 or 270 degrees and saves a new file, so the corrected orientation is part of the video itself rather than depending on the player.

Choose 90 or 270 degrees to straighten a sideways clip, depending on which way it is tilted, or 180 degrees to fix an upside-down one. Because the video is re-encoded, rotating takes a little longer than a simple copy. If you also want a shorter or smaller file, trim it with the Video Trimmer or shrink it with the Video Compressor. To rotate a still photo instead, use the Image Rotator.

Frequently asked questions

Will this fix videos with rotation metadata but that already play correctly?

No changes are needed for those — this tool is for footage that's genuinely sideways in its pixels.

Can I rotate by a custom angle?

Only 90-degree increments are supported today.

Does audio stay in sync?

Yes, the audio track is preserved untouched.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The rotation runs in your browser tab using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so your file stays on your device.

Which rotation angles can I choose?

90, 180 or 270 degrees. Pick the angle that turns your footage upright, then download the corrected MP4.
